The Best NoMa Hotel: Courtyard
Why: Steps Away from the Metro Station
There are three hotel options within walking distance to the NoMa or New York Ave. Metro station. Of the three we recommend prioritizing Courtyard because the hotel entrance is literally in front of the Metro station. Each of the three hotels will mirror one another in terms of price point an amenities. Parking at each option runs over $40 per night. Our research told us on average weekend rates are often the lowest at the Courtyard. The problem with these three options is that hotels in better locations generally run the same rates. The drawback isn’t nessecary the hotels, but the neighborhood. The Noma area isn’t all that welcoming and is undergoing gentrification. Make sure to check out staying at hotels near Metro Center or Chinatown before settling on NoMa. In any case, if staying near the NoMa station is a priority, or you can find a good deal look at Courtyard as the best first option.
As for the Hilton Garden Inn and Hyatt Place, the other two options within walking distance to the NoMa Metro, the Hyatt stands out for a couple of reasons. The Hyatt has an outdoor pool situated a few stories up, is a new hotel, and unlike the Hilton Garden offers guests free breakfast. Since all three of these hotels compete so closely to one another and generally perform well within online reviews use the widget below to enter our dates and find the best deal.
NoMa Neighborhood: NoMa, which stands for North of Massachusetts Avenue, is a rapidly developing urban neighborhood in northeast DC. NoMa sits on the red line and is home to a diverse mix of families and young professionals in row houses and new apartment buildings. The area is undergoing gentrification as the city pushes into old neighborhoods. NoMa is convenient to Union Station and to trendy H Street. H street is a popular night life destination. Some travelers will comment the construction and homeless population make the NoMa neighborhood less attractive. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the National Mall. As for the notable things to do nearby, Union Market is the biggest attraction in NoMa. A revitalized indoor market, you’ll find food stalls and sit-down dining options, local artisans selling their wares, as well as butchers, bakers, and dairy farmers.
