There are a number of hotels in northeast Washington, D.C. however, there are a lot of reasons to stay elsewhere in Washington, D.C.

Is it Safe to Stay in Northeast DC?

First the pros to this area of the city. The up and coming U street, and H street corridors are popular destinations for nightlife. This area is home to the legendary 9:30 club, which both my husband and I go to regularly for concerts.

The main issue with this area however, is a lack of hotels near transit options. In fact, there are no hotels within a short walk to the Metro system in northeast DC between downtown and College Park, which is home to the University of Maryland.

Places to Avoid in Northeast DC

Because of the uptick in violence in Washington, D.C. tourists coming to the area should use caution before looking for hotels near the Nationals ballpark and the Navy Yard Metro.

Therefore, if you’re traveling to DC, generally speaking the northeast isn’t a great option due to a lack of hotel options, and neighborhood crime tends to rise as you head east of D.C.
