Friday Arrival & Hotel

Washington, DC, is an excellent place for families with kids due to the rich history and educational experiences around the city. In just the North West Quadrant, you’ll find museums, political spots, and interactive activities to keep your family engaged and busy all weekend long. Save some money by staying across the river in Arlington or Alexandria – try the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn. Upon arrival, one of the most unique and budget friendly options is to grab dinner from a food truck and eat in one of DC’s parks or famous squares. You’ll find the best selection on Friday afternoons near Chinatown or McPherson Square. Expect meals to run around $10 a person.

Saturday & Sunday

Saturday morning, rent some bikes from Capital Bikeshare (about $8 a person) and bike around the Monuments. This is a local favorite for weekends and at an incredibly low cost, it offers outdoor activity and sight seeing all in one. Many of the museums are also free – a stroll down Constitution Ave will bring you to any one of the nationally-known Smithsonian facilities. Friday Arrival & Hotel

For couples returning to DC for a fun weekend, skip the tourist events and use funds for unique opportunities to try something new. Mature Couples will love The Mayflower, a beautiful historic hotel that has great weekend rates. The Mayflower is in Farragut Square, meaning it is within walking distance of tons of great restaurants and local sights. Valet parking at the Mayflower is $35 a day, a relatively standard DC rate, and breakfast is $20 daily. Friday evening, grab dinner at Off the Record, a famous DC bar and restaurant across the street from the White House.

Saturday & Sunday

After grabbing breakfast Saturday morning, mature couples will love to get brunch at the Watergate Hotel Rooftop: a historical building that has been completely renovated with a rooftop that offers gorgeous sights, good food, and cool cocktails. Brunch at the Watergate runs about $12-15 a drink and $20-30 an entrée. Take in the beautiful view of the Potomac River and Georgetown and spend the afternoon walking through Georgetown’s M Street. Head back to the hotel to rest and freshen up before grabbing dinner at Old Ebbit Grille, next door to the Executive Office Building and White House. Late night music is free at the Hamilton, next door, and their late night menu is happy-hour priced. Sunday morning, after breakfast at the hotel, visit the new Museum of African American History – not only is it of no cost to attend, but it is a piece of history that is worth the trip. After walking around the city, grab dinner at a spot near the hotel – try Bobby Van’s Steakhouse – before heading to bed to rest up for the trip home Monday.
