A Local’s Guide to Choice Hotels in Washington, DC

Choice Hotel Group has 6 different brands that are close to the DC metro lines. Those brands consist of: Cambria Hotel & Suites, Clarion Suites, Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge, Quality Inn and Rodeway Inn. Budget-minded travelers will want to consider Econo Lodge, Quality Inn and Rodeway Inn for cheap rates averaging under $100 and free parking. Most Choice hotels offer free parking, while Cambria and Clarion charge $15 per day. A good middle ground are the Comfort Inns, which have a wide range in pricing and typically reviewed highly. The most expensive Choice hotel is the Cambria Hotel & Suites.

My suggestion is to look at the Quality Inn near Spring Hill metro station. Their average rates are very affordable and the location will appeal to all travelers with its convenience to major DC sights and the vast amount of shopping opportunities.

Why Find a Choice Hotel Near the Metro?

The Metro system in DC is fast, convenient and cheap. In fact, it’s cheaper to take the metro than to drive around, whether you’re in DC for business, vacation or just visiting.

Parking anywhere in the DC area can be expensive and frustrating. Add on the hectic traffic and limited street parking, and you’re looking at spending more time and money than it’s really worth.

The DC metro system can take you anywhere you need to go, usually within a 15 minute ride (30 if you’re out towards the suburbs). Be sure to stay at one of these hotels close to a Metro station and save the hassle.

This hotel is very modern and boasts nice amenities such as a heated pool, whirlpool and hot tub. At mid-level cost you get a more luxury feel. Although some amenities come with a fee, it’s typically low and affordable.

Comfort Inn has three locations near the DC metro line: Ballston, Franconia/Springfield and Shady Grove. These Comfort Inns all provide free parking and breakfast, and rates range from $100-$150 on average depending on the location. They are also a decent walk away from the metro station, and in some cases taking a shuttle or driving to the metro station would be preferable. Shady Grove has the longest commute into DC at about 40 minutes by metro, while Ballston has the shortest at 15 minutes by metro. For these reasons we believe most travelers will appreciate the Ballston Comfort Inn.

Although the College Park Quality Inn averages cheaper rates and is close to University of Maryland, the one near Spring Hill metro station is much more convenient and offers great food and shopping opportunities with the Tysons Galleria and Tysons Corner Center. Overall, I strongly recommend the Spring Hill Quality Inn as the best deal out of all the Choice hotels.
