Most people do not realize that it is much more expensive to stay in downtown Washington DC during Sunday-Thursday over Friday and Saturday nights. Hotel prices fall on average of $75 per night and sometimes much more in downtown DC. The major hotel chains always keep these flagship hotels up to date, so guests with even modest expectations should be impressed. Generally speaking, downtown is the area immediately surrounding the Verizon Center. Downtown spans unofficially from the Chinatown / Gallery metro station all the way to the Foggy-Bottom station at George Washington University.

Club Quarters is the most affordable downtown Washington DC hotel. Rates here average below $200 for weekday visits. Located 1 block from either the Metro Orange or Red line, this hotel is also very close to the White House. This is not the best choice for travelers who want to impress. This hotel will serve well as a business hotel. Don’t expect to be impressed with the decor, its just a place to sleep. The next best alternative to find saving is the Fairfield Inn near the Chinatown Metro.

The Cheapest Hotel in Downtown Washington DC on Weekends

Tourist should look into staying near Chinatown for weekend visits to DC. The Fairfield Inn has average rates around $211 on weekends. Chinatown is where all the excitement is including many restaurants, the American Portrait Gallery and Spy Muesuem. The National Mall from any downtown station is about a 15 to 20 minute walk away. The Crowne PLaza at McPherson’s Square offers standard rooms for an average of about $159 on the weekends.
