Hotels Near Greenbelt Metro

1484271751_08_thumbs_upRecommended Hotel: Hampton Inn
Why: Free Breakfast, Wifi, Parking, Great Rates, Reviews

There are a few hotels near the Greenbelt Metro station which also services as a MARC and Amtrak station. We recommend the Hampton Inn, but at the same time would advocate for taking a look at the Shady Grove Metro as an alternative to Greenbelt. The drawback to Greenbelt is that it is not easy to walk to the Metro from any of the hotel options and surprisingly none of the hotels offer a free shuttle to the Metro. That means travelers will need to rely on a taxi, or Parking at the station which is available for a little over $5 per day. We suggest the Hampton because rates are usually around $125 per night, this will always be much cheaper than the nearby Hampton Inn at the Silver Spring Metro. Guests can expect free parking, breakfast and wifi, plus a small gym and pool. The vast majority of reviews praise the Hampton Inn. It’s a good value all around, but look at other stations first for similar priced hotels in a better location.

nieghborhood_vibe_48Neighborhood Vibe: Greenbelt, Maryland is located at the end of the green/yellow metro lines, north of Washington, DC. Close to the University of Maryland, this area is suburban, with groups of townhouses, neighborhoods of single family homes, and the requisite office parks and strip malls. This is a safe area, but not very walkable. A car is really a must to stay here. Greenbelt is conveniently located off of the Capital Beltway and there is a bus to Baltimore-Washington International Airport from the metro station.

things_to_do_48Things to Do: In the area immediately around the hotels and metros, you’ll mostly find recognizable chain restaurants, but if you’re willing to venture a little farther out, Uptown Grill offers terrific subs or try the Mediterranean fare at the New Deal Cafe. In addition to its close proximity to the University of Maryland, Greenbelt is also home to Goddard Space Flight Center. Its visitor center offers rotating exhibits and hands-on space activities for kids. Nearby Buddy Attick Park offers trails for hikers and joggers, as well as a playground for kids. Campers will enjoy Greenbelt National Park, also close by. The metro trip into DC will take about 25 minutes.
