What is the Best Braddock (Alexandria) Hotel?

Why: A Good Place to Impress a Loved One

There are two hotels within walking distance to the Braddock Metro station. Out of the two AKA Hotel stands based on its newly renovated rooms and contemporary look and feel to the hotel. Neither the Sheraton or AKA offer free parking. One of the perks to this location is that the hotels are situated close to the waterfront, shopping, and restaurants in Alexandria. One drawback is that the Braddock Metro will be a 10 – 12 minute walk from all of the hotels which is not ideal in bad weather. Because the AKA Hotel is updated, and the both the Sheraton or AKA are expensive options, take a look there first for a luxury minded stay in Alexandria.

nieghborhood_vibe_48Braddock Neighborhood: The Braddock station is location Alexandria. All the hotels are a five block walk to the station. On the upside the hotels are also close to most of the attractions in Alexandria. Alexandria is home to many unique restaurants, riverfront parks, and will be appreciated for its easy access to downtown DC, DCA, and Mt. Vernon. It is hard for any tourist to go wrong with Alexandria. For a nicer night out that won’t break the bank, The Majestic and Columbia Firehouse both offer slightly upscale takes on American classics and terrific service. You’ll also find that the bars run the spectrum from divey sports bars to upscale cocktails. Old Town also offers its share of shopping. While you’ll find a number of national chains, such as Anthropologie or Lululemon, you’re more likely to find locally-owned antiques shops and clothing boutiques.

While you’ll find a number of national chains, such as Anthropologie or Lululemon, you’re more likely to find locally-owned antiques shops and clothing boutiques. If you can’t find what you’re looking for on King Street, hop a water taxi to Georgetown or across the Potomac to National Harbor. (National Harbor is also a short drive over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.) The historic district here offers the opportunity for guided or self-guided walking tours of the landmarks, such as the church where George Washington worshiped. The waterfront is also a popular spot to take in the sights—here is also where you’ll find the Torpedo Factory Art Center with rotating displays of local art. And, of course, Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington, is just south of Old Town, a short drive or a scenic bike ride away. The Mount Vernon Trail, which connects Mount Vernon to DC runs directly through Old Town and is a popular trail for runners, walkers, and bikers.
