A Local’s Guide to Crowne Plaza Hotels in Washington, DC

You’ll find three Crowne Plazas near the DC metros. The Tysons Corner Crowne Plaza is our favorite pick of the three. The low parking fee, convenient location and overall cost makes this Crowne Plaza stand out amongst the rest. Although Braddock Crowne Plaza is more slightly more affordable, the higher parking fee and the inconvenient distance to the metro station makes it less desirable. The McPherson Square Crowne Plaza has the best location of all, but you pay the price with much more expensive weekday and weekend rates and higher parking fees. Tysons Corner Crowne Plaza is close to restaurants, shopping and only a block away from the metro station – you get the most benefits for what you pay.

Why Look for a Crowne Plaza Near the DC Metro?

airbnb near the metro
The Metro system in DC is fast, convenient and cheap. In fact, it’s cheaper to take the metro than to drive around, whether you’re in DC for business, vacation or just visiting.

Parking anywhere in the DC area can be expensive and frustrating. Add on the hectic traffic and limited street parking, and you’re looking at spending more time and money than it’s really worth.

The DC metro system can take you anywhere you need to go, usually within a 15 minute ride (30 if you’re out towards the suburbs). Be sure to stay at one of these hotels close to a Metro station and save the hassle.

#1 Braddock

Crowne Plaza in Alexandria

This Crowne Plaza is situated in Old Town Alexandria close to non-traditional DC sites, trails and parks along the Potomac River. The shopping in the area offers brands, antiques and boutiques, but a quick water taxi to Georgetown offers more shopping options. For people flying in, this Crowne Plaza location is ideal. It also has the lowest rates compared to other Crowne Plaza hotels in DC. The free shuttle can take you to/from the airport, as well as anywhere in the Old Town area. This is necessary since the metro station is a whopping 8 blocks away, and parking a car at the hotel can be expensive.

#2 Tysons

Crowne Plaza in Tysons Corner

Tysons Corner is a suburban area in northern Virginia with shopping centers and offices. Always busy, the weekends are especially crowded with locals and visitors alike. The silver line runs through the area and the metro station is only a block away from the Crown Plaza — getting to DC takes 30 minutes. This Crowne Plaza is pretty affordable and the hotel parking is only $7 a day, so you can keep your car parked for the whole trip. The pool and fitness center are an added bonus. Traffic can be hectic, so avoid driving around and be careful crossing multi-lane streets.

#3 McPherson Square

Comfort Inn, Downtown DC

Centrally located right in Downtown DC, McPherson Square is only a few blocks away from the White House and the National Mall. There are tons of restaurants, bars, theaters and museums within walking distance, making the location especially nice. McPherson Square metro, as well as the Metro Center, is only a couple blocks away giving access to all of DC and the adjacent areas. Unfortunately, the prime location also means this Crowne Plaza comes with a prime price. Rates are much higher here and parking can cost $49 per day. So unless money isn’t a factor, consider staying farther out of the city for cheaper options.
